Update! Backwoods purchases ROAMBUILT to pursue expansion and refocusing of adventure van production line!

Backwoods Adventure Mods was begun in 2007 and over the years has become known as a market-leading purveyor of high-end accessories for both the adventure van and overland truck and SUV industries. At the 65,000 square foot production facility in Springdale, Arkansas, they designed and built their own unique, off-road ready bumpers, ladders, roof racks, storage boxes and more specifically for the conversion van and midsized 4x4 market.

In April 2024, Backwoods Adventure Mods and its parent company Chandler Equipment launched a new chapter in the company’s progress, purchasing Portland-based company ROAMBUILT to accommodate a production line split. In order to better organize and facilitate continued growth and expansion of products, it was decided that the overlanding Toyota and adventure van products would be more successful if each was separated into its own path.

Under the newly acquired brand ROAMBUILT, Backwoods will specifically focus on designing and manufacturing the highest quality and most innovative accessories for the Sprinter adventure van market. Over the rest of 2024 and early 2025, Backwoods focused on moving everything from Portland to their Springdale production facility. As Backwoods purchased ROAMBUILT complete with their designs, patents, trademarks, and working website, they fully intend to not just continue producing previous Backwoods van products, but also bring back many of the top tier Sprinter van products that originally gave ROAMBUILT its name.

The brand split allows the newly refocused company under the ROAMBUILT brand to pursue advanced research and development capabilities to offer a varied and extensive selection of bumpers, ladders, steps, roof racks, and more for the most rigorously upfitted Sprinter camper and overlanding vans. Backwoods Adventure Mods now focuses on developing top-tier products for the growing Toyota overlanding market, designing and producing an expanding line of bumpers, roof racks, rock sliders, boxes, and more specifically for Toyota vehicles that need to push the limits.

The point being, if you loved the Backwoods DRIFTR Ladder and Roof Rack, or were eagerly eyeing their assertive and effective Nomad Bumper, don’t worry! We loved those products too, as did thousands upon thousands of other adventure van owners and upfitters. Backwoods has no intention of discontinuing such a wildly popular, functional, and gorgeous line of accessories for the continuously expanding Sprinter camper van market.Right now, in order to catch up with the demand from the Sprinter market, which was supplying 9 out of 10 orders, for Backwoods in van parts, ROAMBUILT will be focusing production on Sprinter bumpers, roof racks, and ladders. While still available, previously produced Transit parts are being offered at clearance rates from Backwoods; and once they have stabilized their new production model, there is indication that ROAMBUILT will re-enter the Transit modification market.
