The In-Floor Shower Pan installation is more involved. The pan is recessed into the floor structure, which means cutting the existing floor, modifying or reinforcing the subfloor framing, and creating a waterproof pocket that drains to a gray water tank or exterior port. The drain routing alone requires careful planning — the drain line has to maintain proper slope across its entire run to prevent standing water in the pipe, and it has to be insulated in cold climates to prevent freeze damage.
